Application & Membership
How does the application process work?
To rent a garden plot, first read ALL of the documentation found on the U-Grow website, including the downloadable PDF documents. When you are ready, complete the U-Grow gardener agreement. State the size of the plot you prefer. Not all plot sizes are available every year. Plots, their sizes, and prices are listed for download on the Forms page.
The Application page is located here: APPLY | ugrow.
Is there tool storage space available?
We have a shed on the property where you can rent tool storage space for $50 for the year. It's enough space to store a shovel, a rake, a cultivator/hoe, and some poles.
When are annual rental fees due?
All renewal rental fees are due March 15th. Payments should be sent by e-transfer to the email address in the rental agreement.
Is Work Party attendance required?
Attending work parties for 4 hours for the entire season is preferred. This is because the garden maintenance is simply too much for one person to handle. A community garden is a collection of gardeners who are interested in gardening together. This includes performing tasks that are beneficial for the entire community. For those who are not physically able to contribute, or don't have time to contribute, there is an in-lieu fee of $125 for the year. This fee goes towards paying someone from outside the gardens to come in and help with the maintenance tasks.
What are my responsibilities as a gardener?
A gardener's main responsibility is to ensure that their plot is maintained at all times. Weeding is a large part of gardening, and this task must be completed diligently due to the Creeping Field Cress that is found throughout the property. Plots that fall behind can cause weeds to go to seed, which impacts neighbouring plots and increases their workload.
